VBS

Several years ago I had a misfit group of afterschool kids that I taught. Each summer we would travel across a not-so-busy street and venture into the nearby High School to enter the magical world of a local Baptist Church's VBS (Vacation Bible School). The kids had a great time despite the roughness of the program as well as the thrown together at the last minute craft gadgets they took away with them at the end of the day. Since Neo was a mere bambino at the time, I eagerly anticipated the day I would be able to take him to VBS.

Flash forward to nowaday.

A local Baptist Church advertised their VBS on a local radio station earlier in the year and I began to plan for the big week. I talked about it and described what VBS would be like to my son but nothing prepared me for what I actually saw when I followed him into the building yesterday.

It was true wonderment!! This was not the local VBS in the local church fair. You see, my son loves Science and Math, an admiration that I never really had until he came along. Now, I felt like a kid in a candy shop.

These guys went all out. As we walked to my son's "Crew Room" , I marveled at the set designs which, I knew included a great deal of labor, and dedication, as "Scientists" roamed around showing kids where they were supposed to go. They were out to create a fun and memorable VBS experience and from an adult's perspective, they did it from the first step inside the building! Kid's all around us (as well as my son) kept saying, "Now this is cool!" "Oh look!!" and "That's awesome!"

I wanted to stay and "play" despite the nag of work needing to be done at the office.

These pictures I took are but a few of this VBS and doesn't seem to do it much justice but oh well. It's still pretty awesome!
